ok guys i got a question on a rear end... i have a 1989 formula with a stock gear in it what ever that may be.. my question is i bought a rear out of a 4th gen with a 3.73 richmond would i be able to jus take the posi and gear out of the 4th gen and put it in the rear of my formula????

just swap the entire rear...urs probably has 26 spline axles and the newer one would have the 28 spline axles. and if u are not familiar with rear ends i dont recomend trying to swap the posi and gears yourself...the whole rear end will bolt right in and be a little stronger...the only thing is its slightly wider so u would need different rims or u can run newe style vette/fbody rims back there with no spacers...

 

i already have welds for the back and i dont feel like buiyin another new set... i dont have a prob changin it no big deal really i got a deal on the rear but it doesnt have the pin that holds the axles in nor does it have backing plates on it so that where i sit at
