will an 89 5.7 &ecm work with a 91tranny?

i'm going to be swapping my 305 tbi for a 350 tpi.my car is a 91 bird with an 4L60e(electronic)tranny(700r4).the motor i'm putting in is from a 89 bird.what year did gm switch over to a electronic tranny from a non-electronic(4L60)?i bought the motor,harness and ecm w/chip.

93 was the last year for the non-electronic 700R4/4L60. You're saying you have a 4L60E in your 91? Or you have a 4L60?

You can use any non-electronic trans with a TPI computer, since the only thing it controls is the torque converter lockup. That is built into the PROM.

I think you are confusing the TCC Lockup function as being "electric tranny". Both the '89 and '91 have a regular 4L60 and the swap will be OK.

the tranny is the stock tranny!i thought i read some where that 91 was the first year for the 4L60E?

Nope, 94 is the first year for the 4L60E. In 1990, GM changed the name of the trans from 700R4 to 4L60, but its the exact same trans. In 1994, it was changed to electronically controlled shifting, and given the name 4L60E.
