rear housing changes? 82-92...

I need to know if the 1982 10 bolt posi disc rear is the same as a newer, say 91 or 92, besides the 26-28 spline change. I also would like to know if drum brake axles are the same as disc brake axles. Hopefully this makes sense... 8^) I would like to get a take off posi from SLP and an install kit, and mate them with a set of take off GM LS1 3:42 gears that I have.

The flange end on the axle is the same from 82-92. The disk brakes themselves changed around 89 but that was only the mount, caliper and rotor size. The only thing that changed on the axles was the spline count.

If you put a 28 spline carrier in your 82 diff then yes you can just use factory 90-92 axles with no problems. Drum and disk axles are the same.

Aren't the flanges on the axleshafts thicker for disc brake applications? (Or thinner?) Not that it matters much, but I'm pretty sure I heard this somewhere.

I have a drum and disk axle in my shed. Both axles are the same. When I ordered aftermarket 28 spline axles, there's no option for disk or drum.

Thanks for the info! Maybe in the spring thaw I'll go measure the axles from the drum axle (covered in snow right now) and my disc axle (on my car)...
