wc t5 Q&A

I currently have a dying 700R4 behind my moderately built 350. I'm stuck between getting a nicely made 700R4 or converting to a WC T5. I would really like a T56 but i dont think i can come up with the cash for all the parts. i would probably come across the T5 easier too. I have a few questions on this...whats this transmission rated at? I've heard from 275-305 ft. lbs. I dont think my motor is making an incredible anount of power, but i do drive it hard...so i need to know what this trans can take. secondly, i need to know if my 700R4 prepared drive shaft will work with the T5 (length, spline count) also, i believe the first year for the WC was 88. when did the camaro's make the switch to an electric speedo? will I find a WC T5 with a mechanical speedo output? and how can i tell a WC T5 from a regular T5 if i have the 2 side by side? and last, i need to know if the clutch setup is the same for the old T5 and the WC t5. I know this is a lot but i appreciate the help i get from you guys

I've heard 275 ft/lbs for the regular T5 and 315 ft/lbs for the WCT5.

Yes, the 700R4 and T5 use the same driveshaft.

Camaros switched to the electronic speedo in 1990, while Firebirds switched in 1987. The trans is the exact same, only the speedo is different, and the electronic speedo and cable speedo are direct swaps.

Yes the clutches are the same.

The WCT5 has a TIMKIN bearing on the front. The bottom left of the input shaft has a circle on it, that is the cluster bearing. The circumference of that circle will have writing on it that says TIMKIN. You will know its a WCT5 by that. Here's a pic of my WCT5 taken apart:

In the last pic you can see the circle on the front I am talking about.

From Kevin: I provided links, not images, to my pics for a reason. My server doesnt need the extra bandwith of loading those pics every time. Thanks.
