Need T-5 swap answers:

I installed the bellhousing and trans so far today. I was going to install the Spohn crossmember and support the trans and then move onto the interior. However, as I jacked up the trans and crossmember to install the crossmember bolts, the shifter mounting base (no shifter installed) pushed up against the trans tunnel and I could not get the crossmember close enough to thread in all the bolts. So my question is, is the trans tunnel opening for a T-5 normally have the base of the shift plate sticking up through the tunnel?

Question number two concerns the speedo drive units. I swapped my cable drive unit for a electronic VSS unit. But the connector plug is different. The one I have was for my auto tranny. So I need a VSS plug for a manual T-5. Is the connector plug for a cable drive and a VSS drive the same? If I found a 3rd gen at the junkyard that had a T-5 in it at one time, could I pull the speedo plug knowing it fits either version speedo drive? Thanks!

Yes the shifter base sticks through the floor, you'll need to cut a hole to clear.

The T5 actually used a few different VSS sensors, I'm not sure what changed with what year/model. Some are alot larger than others, etc. I had that problem when I did the swap...and I still don't have a speedo.

There are four types of VSS signals required by the engine computer (ECM):
1. The two-pulse (2000 pulses per mile) square wave (D.C. current or direct current) used on all TBI engines through 1992, all computer-controlled-carbureted engines, and on 1985–1989 TPI engines.
2. A four-pulse (4000 pulses per mile) sine-wave (A.C. current or alternating current) signal is required by the 1990–1993 TPI, 1992–1993 LT1 engines, and 1990–1993 Camaro 3.1/3.4 V6 engines.
hope that helps out you and Jester, good luck Tom.
