What is the most horsepower a 7 5/8 rear end can handle? I have a '91 RS with a very stout 355 SBC, approx. 500hp, with a T56 6-spd. tranny. The rear end already has richmond 4.10's, 28 spline 1LE axles, an auburn posi, a rear end cover with girdle/brace. I know not to try and launch this with slicks at 6000RPM, but will it handle everyday driving and street racing with street tires...or even street tires at the track?

Nobody really knows. Some people have 400 HP cars and the stock rear end, and some people have 200 HP cars and have broken rear ends. There is no magic number.

i have a rearend with a very similar setup as you and it's been good up to 10.7x in the 1/4 mile. This was on nitrous, too.

my experience with my 10-bolt is not normal, though...I'm sure it'll go soon enough.
