$1500 to spend on new rear, suggestions?
On my 86 Iroc the rear let go and blew a chunk out of the housing. This is the original rear with posi and discs and about a zillion miles.
I've decided to order a complete assembled rear with axles but am not sure who makes the best for this car. I would like a simple bolt in swap that is strong and relatively inexpensive. I could go as high as $2000.00 but hopefully I won't have to. I'm making about 320-330 hp now and this summer will be installing heads to boost into the 400-420 hp range. I want a solid rear that wont break. (Scared the livin' **** outa me when it let go!)
Could you guys let me know who you have had the best experience with? And possibly URLs or phone numbers so I can contact them? I'd like to get the order placed today.
Also, I beleive I have the older style of rear discs, is there a difference in the mounting flange on the newer design? I'm also going to replace the rear calipers with new so if possible I'd like to use the newer stuff. Will I have to change anything else?
TIA

www.moserengineering.com. It's over kill for what you have now but you wont have to worry about it later. They have the new bolt in 12 bolt or a bolt in f*rd 9" and as you will see you need to budget more money.
Thanks Jeff, I agree it is overkill but what else is available? I need a strong, complete, replacement with ~3:50 gears, posi, and disk brake brackets.
Moser want's slightly more than $2000.00 before shipping for the 12 bolt. I didn't see anything about a Ford 9" on their website so I'll give them a call and see what they recommend.
I would even be willing to buy a performance rebuilt 9 or 10 bolt if I could find someone selling them.
I'm in Orlando Fl so if anyone has anymore ideas I am listening!

OK, I spoke to Moser, the price for a Ford 9", shipped, is $2190.00. I would have to mod my current brake bracket to work and instructions are included. The GM 12 bolt is about $200.00 more.
My question now is which is the better rear? Which will last longer, run quieter etc...
