More on the T56

Scrolling back through the messages I noticed that someone posted that an aftermarket T56 is a much easier installation than one out of a 4th generation. My question is what exactly do I need to complete the conversion on an aftermarket T56? Fortesparts.com is selling new T56's for 2 grand right now. With their setup can I use my T5 bellhousing? My T5 clutch assembly (I just put a new centerforce in my T5 4 months ago). I want the easiest installation procedure possible here as I really dislike being underneith cars.

Thx!

Depends on what you consider easier. The aftermarket version requires shortening the driveshaft and torque arm but retains the T5 clutch and bellhousing. The one out of a 4th gen requires a longer hydraulic hose on the clutch assy. It also needs a special flywheel that allows the use of the LT1 clutch. It may need more parts, but it all bolts up without having to cut and reweld the torque arm and having to get the driveshaft shortened.

Personnaly I prefer using one out of a 4th gen. I installed one on mine with no major problems. Good luck and email me if you have any questions.
