Tranny mount from hell
Tranny mount from hell
Im having a problem guys. I wanted to install my new poly trans mount from energy suspension today considering my old tranny mount was busted in half, so i go out to do a 30 minute job....ive spent the last 2 hours doing this thing. now its dark and i cant work on it anymore tonight so needless to say im livid.
The problem im having is i cant get the new bolt to line up with the hole on the mount. The crossmember hole, and the mount hole do not line up. I though maybe i had the mount on the wrong way, so i flipped it around and it didnt help at all. I know this is dumb, but hey, im new to this. Anybody ever had this problem, have any tips to solve this???

Also I was just reading about the bad vibrations with energy suspensions mounts, i heard that unless you are pushing 500+hp you should not install the metal plate that comes with it...anyone know if this is true??? I figure while im already down there i might as well take that out...back to the original problem...please somebody help...this thing is pissing me off. I think I might try to completely remove the crossmember, then start the bolt into the mount, then bolt the crossmember back on...any other suggestions?!?!?!

Leave the plate in. I have installed many of these mounts without any vibration problems.
As far as the alignment problems go, I would recommend loosening the 2 bolts that hold the mount to the bottom of the transmission, then line everything up.
You may have to widen the slot in the crossmember with a file (or a die-grinder) as the bolt for the new mount is bigger than the stock one.
If all else fails, loosen the mount bolts, loosen the crossmsmber bolts, make sure the transmission is supported by a jack, line everything up, get all the bolts started, then tighten them all up.
The back of the transmission can be pushed from side to side if you need to move it.
Have fun, try not to get frustrated as this never helps and often results in a bump on the head from rolling around under the car in anger. I know. I have many scars from such bumps.

Thanks karl. I figured thats what i'd do, just loosen everything up and get it all aligned. I did notice also that the new bolt was a little bigger then the crossmember hole so i filed it. I just wanted to make sure it didnt mean i had it in wrong or anything. Well, now i just get to wait till the morning to go back to work.
