Square buttoned TV cable, vs. "D" shaped button?
Ok, recently in an attempt to fix my trannys problem of not shifting correctly and high revs in between shifts I went to adjust my TV cable, but I noticed that I have a square button as opposed to the "D" button that most others Camaros I have seen have. It seems to shift best if I slide the slider all the way back towards the firewall and dont ratchet it out, but that only works until I floor the car. In either adjustment the tranny shifts like crap, realy bad when I rathet it out like I am suppose to do. What gives? Do i have the wrong TV cable? Are they somehow different lengths?
Thanx.

I guess its possible you do have a square button, there is only one cable that works like a TV cable. Its obvious from your post that your trans is suffering from low line pressure. You might be able to correct this with a shift kit, but I can't make no promises.

I have a square shaped button. My friend's 87 IROC has a 'D' shaped button. I think the later cars have the square button.

I know what your going through and it sucks! I took my car to a transmission shop and the tech put a tpi recalibration kit on the cable. It's basiclly a little spring with a stopper that slides onto the end of the cable where it connects to the throttle linkage. Also it your car shifts at too low of RPM at WOT, mine did with the symptoms your talking about, make sure it has the right governor in the trans. Mine had a really heavy gov. like it was out of a truck or something. After that I have no idea. Hope this helps.

Have you pulled the TV cable by hand to see
if the valve feels like it is sticking in the valve body or the cable is starting to
fray and is hanging up inside the cable
housing? Does your throttle lever have the
correct ratio for a 700-r4 (possible problem when carbs are swapped)?

Ok, well the tranny is out of a van... so the govenor may be incorrect, maybe I could swap the original into my current one or something? The tv cable moves freely and I readjusted it how you are suppose to and it seems to be doing somewhat better, but sometime when I am just cruising along at idle, and then lighlty step on the gas to accelerate from around 20 mph the engine will rev up a few grand before enguaging, but if I slam it down, it jerks so hard I'm afriad I'm gonna break my neck. So whats up? Will the govenor affect at what RPM the tranny locks up?
