Drive shaft u-joints
Hi guys,
A few days ago I was under my car and decided to twist the drive shaft by hand to see if there is any play. It turned by hand a good bit with the rear wheels on the ground. Is this normal? There was now play trying to move it up and down, or left and right. But if I tried to turn it, it turned probably 1/8 to 1/4 of a turn. My car has a 3.42 posi rear end.
Thanks alot for your help.

is it an auto or manual. if im not mistaken then manuals will tend to have more (play) but if you getting 1/4 out of it than i would say that your pinion in th reareng needs to be shimmed because there is too much backlash in the gears.

The car is a 5 speed manual. How much are you supposed to be able to turn it? Maybe it is a bit less than a 1/4 of a turn, but it is a noticeable amount.
