I have an 89 v6 Firebird. Lately it's been harder than normal to move the shifter. And this morning the shifter got stuck in reverse. I can't move the shifter at all, it's as if someone JB Welded the shifter into reverse.
I took the car in to a transmission shop to have it checked out. They checked the linkage and electronics. That all checked out fine they say. They think it's an internal problem with the transmission and they want to do a basic rebuild on it.
What do you all think the problem is? I don't want to have to get the transmission rebuilt if the shop is just trying to rip me off.

Wow.... You drove backwards all the way to the tranny shop? And you didn't get caught?

Hey I did that when one the shafts broke off the drums in my tranny and had NO forward gears whatsoever. Drove backwards for about 5 miles hehe Should have seen the looks on people's faces. lol
