Help with Tranny cable, please

I have a 1984 Firebird SE, auto transmission.
The cable from the shifter to the tranny came off the pin, and I need the nut that attaches it. I went to Pontiac and the guy ordered # 10023799 which I think is the pin, not the nut. I can't find a good, exploded diagram of this with the correct GM part number anywhere. Can anyone help me, here?
I wish I could find an Assembly Manual for this car. I used to have one for my '74 Vette and it proved invaluable!
Thanks!

10023799 is the pin on the end of the cable. The nut is 1646714. It'll be cheaper and easier to just go get a regular M10x1.5x9mm jam nut from the hardware store.

Re: Help with Tranny cable, please

Thanks! I put in that number but nothing comes up. I called the Pontiac guy and it looks like the part number he gave me is 11514596. I'm going to check out a local dealer today. If not, I'll use your idea of getting a jam nut from the local hardware store. Thanks!
Any idea where I can get an Assembly Manual for this car?

Do you really want to pay $5 for a nut? http://www.rockauto.com/dbphp/prt,337,11514596

Watch eBay for the illustration manual. They don't turn up often.

Re: Help with Tranny cable, please

I actually drove to 2 different places because the exploded view at the dealer's parts place showed 2 different nuts. Well, after buying both of them, neither one works. This pin doesn't have threads. It's smooth, with a grove that runs around it toward the tip, which is almost like a nipple. Anyway, these nuts both are looking for threads. I put my cotter pin back and it's working fine. I just bent it so it fits right in the groove. It's fine for now. I'll have my mechanic look at it. But it's frustrating.
I'll keep a lookout on ebay for that manual. Thanks!

Re: Help with Tranny cable, please

I went back to Pontiac to get my money back for the pin they almost ordered. There was an older guy there who used to work on these cars, and thinks the part I need is actually a piece of the cable. My cable has a loop at the end of it, but he thinks there is a piece that is supposed to be in that loop, like a nylon piece that is attached to the cable. The other side of it is threaded which is where the nuts go. He suggested I order a new cable, see what it looks like, and if he's wrong they'll just send it back. I didn't have to pay for it, so that's what I did. Tomorrow will tell the tale.
