Good idea for everbody with a t56
I thought of a good Idea that might help everbody with a t56 out. The t56 uses a solenoid to shift into reverse. Ive read some guys are using the clutch or brake pedal. Or some are using a shifter with a button on it to activate the solenoid. But what if we used an convertor lockup box like the one B&M makes. It is made to activate the lockup on an automatic between 30-90 mph. We could use it by changing the mph where it locks up down to 5 mph. Then as soon as the speed of the car drops to 5mph it would activate the solenoid in the t56 and let us shift into reverse. I dont know how hard it would be to change the mph of lockup. I dont think it would be that hard Probably just change the value of a couple of resistors inside the box. Also We would have to use a Double throw relay. The box Usually Activates the lockup at a speed over 5 mph. With a relay we could make it where it activates the lockup ( in our case the reverse solenoid) at a speed under 5 mph.

I like having to somewhat force mine into reverse. Pretty good saftey feature I think. Plus is some one gets in and needs to back up, they will probably never get anything but 5th. Maybe mine is weak but I really dont have to push hard.

I have a 69' Chevelle with a T-56 in it. If you want to go into reverse easily---push in the clutch-go into first-then without letting out the clutch, go immediately to reverse, it will go right in. Same on T-5's, This will stop the gears from grinding when going to reverse. By the way, If you want to see my Chevelle, look in the MAY 2000 issue of CHEVY HIGH PERFORMANCE. It is the PST advertising section in the middle. The Green car. It is my project car, so don't laugh at the color. It was that color when I bought it. The cool thing was that PST gave me the suspension for FREE and installed it!!! Plus I met MAC DEMERE from motor trend magazine! He took me on a ride through the slalom. It was Damn fun. That guy is one hell of a driver!
