what do I need to do in order for a 700R4 to shift at 6500

at WOT I want the trans to shift at 6500 instead of the stock 5000. Is this controlled by just replacing the governor? What do I need to get?

why don't you just manually shift it whenever you want? I don't quite understand why you'd want it done automatically, but

if you want it to wait later to shift automatically then you just simply remove weights from your governor (nothing at all to buy). But I have to warn you that you may not be happy at all with street drivability with it set like that.
I use the stock weights from an 86TPI car on my governor and just manually shift when I'm racing. It has perfect drivability like that.

hope this helps,

I agree, shift in manually. I have mine set-up to shift pretty early so that my wife can drive it around town without barking the tires. When I drive in hard, I just hold it in gear.

so the governor is what controls the shifts though, right? A shift kit just changes the line pressure for the shifts making it shift quicker. Is this right?

Yep you got it.

I'm assuming your TV cable is at proper adjustment too. If that's out of whack it could change the shifting, but I think you'd know if there was a problem there by now.

If you want the transmission to shift automatically at 6,500 rpm (in drive on the selector), this can be done but with some work. First try the lightest governor and see where you are at. Second, you will have to change springs in the governor & the shift timing springs on the 1-2. 2-3, & 3-4 shift timing valves. This can be quite an effort, but could be worth it if you are a serious bracket racer. If you have any questions call me at 800 7763288 Mon-Sat 10-6 PST and I will try to help.
Glad Too Help!!!
