Speedo cable
Speedo cable
Ok, Maybe this is a very dumb question. Where the heck is my speedometer cable? 88 T/A 305/ 700R4/ TPI. I was told to check the speedo to make sure it worked as well, hwo do I do that, I pulled the gauges yesterday, everything is electronic. I would appreciate any help. BTW - I pulled the gauges looking for the speedo cable, nothing there. The instruments are regular needles, nothing digital. Thanks

mechanical driven speedometers snake from the back of the speedometer itself down through the firewall and connect into the transmission itself (I believe, don't quote me on that)... electrical speedometers I have no clue about
so I don't know if its the same or not... I would think its relatively the same though

Your car shouldn't have a speedo cable. I believe that they put electronic speedos in all of the cars starting in 1986. If your speedo doesn't work check your VSS (vehicle speed sensor) or the VSS buffer. A quality service manual will help you locate these.
Ok, I fixed the speedometer not working problem. Now, my speedometer is inaccurate because I went from the 2.77 rear end to a 3.23. So, how do I fix this, I know with cable driven speedo's it's a simple Drive and driven gear swap, is it the same with the VSS? If so, does anyone have part #'s? If not, how do I do it? thanks.

Check the FAQ. It lists parts numbers for speedo gears.
