What would happen with a bent input shaft

I recieved my t56 today i bought it from a guy in georgia. He shipped it in a box he made and secured it by bolting it to the crate where it normally bolts to the bellousing. Somewhere between Utah and Georgia Ups put it in a cardboad box. It was loose in the box and not secure. When I helped unload it it was standing up on the input shaft. The tranny looks OK on the outside And when I turn the input shaft it looks OK but what if it is bent some what would happen. Would it eat up clutches? Would it eat up the pilot bearing? How long would it take before I would know Somthing is wrong?

The case is aluminum, the input shaft is hardened steel. If some kind of direct atomic blast or something came along and affected the trans in some way, what would be the part that would show damage first?

Sorry, I'm just a logical guy sometimes.

Hmm, he should have used a crate similar to one "someone" used when they sold me a T5. I have that T5 in, seems fine so far. PS, sorry I never got those measurements for you, I had noticed on this board that you had found a "production" t56 and didn't worry about it . . .

If you want to see if it is bent turn it upside down with the inputshaft sticking through a hole. Attach a dial indicator to the trans and set it up at the end of the input shaft to measure runout. Now put the tans in gear and smoothly turn the output shaft. See what the indicator says. I would want <.005. What does everyone else think? I just thought this up. A shop manual should have this spec.
