Tranny Fluid?

This is a stupid question for anybody that knows the answer but...

When you remove the engine you disconnect the tranny at the large end of the bell housing? and when you do is there any tranny fluid or other fluid that would leak out when doing so? I have obviously never done this and assume it is dry since the clutch can 'burn' and it smells when doing so but I wanted to ask. Reason for asking is I wanted to get my T-5 re-done with new gaskets and fluid but no sense if the fluid leaks during engine removal because I want to get the engine done in a half year or so.

Re: Tranny Fluid?

the clutch burning has nothing to do with the gear oil, it does not come in contact with the clutch.

the trans is pretty much sealed, though oil can run out the end, where the driveshaft yoke slides in, if you tilt the trans rearward.

Re: Tranny Fluid?

I always pull mine out with the driveshaft still stuck in it, to prevent it from draining out. They also take automatic tranny fluid... I always get synthetic

Re: Tranny Fluid?

The leak I wanted fixed was throught the gearing in the electronic speed sensor (not the O-ring). I am having a hard time finding one of these, where is a good place to look? They are discontinued by GM.
