shifter threads on 4th gen same as 3rd?

shifter threads on 4th gen same as 3rd?
I talked with an SLP rep today and he said that the threads for the **** on a t56 are different than that on a t5, even with aftermarket units. Is this true? If so what threads are each. There is a great leather hurst shift **** but the rep said it has different threads than my hurst shifter and only fits t56 units.
