Hey just doing a double check to make sure I can do this.

Is a 91 10 bolt with 3.42 gears compatible with any 89 and up 28 spline 7.5" gear 3.23 and up?? Are they both 3 series carriers?

I found an axle and he wants to keep the gears and I want to go to a 3.23 gear anyways, but want to make sure I don't need to switch carriers.

 

Should not be any problem switching the gears if I remember correctly, just remember 28 spline axles will not fit into the 26 spline carrier. The 28 splines are just big enough they will not fit through the bearings.

 

Thanks, I know the 26 splines wont jive. I just couldn't remember which carrier the 3.23's had, I know the series 2 carrier requires an extra spacer to work with higher gears though. Was not sure how the opposite would work though (series 3 carrier with a lower gear).

So the cut off for the two series carrier is a 3.08?

And ANY 3.23 and up gear set for a 28 spline 7.5 ring gear will work with the series 3 (ie fourthgen gears?)

 

Yes, 3.23 fits the 3 series.
