ARG!! please help me with axle posi q's!
I have an 89 TPI posi drum 10 bolt rear and its gears/bearings are going south. I have picked up a 10 bolt rear with some good 3:73 gears in it. I want to put the SLP take-off posi unit in it but need to find some 28 spline axles. I have found out that i basically need a set of axles from an 89-92 rear. The axles from the 3:73 just slide out when i took them out, is that normal? Should i get new brake lines for the "new" rear or can i reuse all the old ones? I will be putting in new e-brake cables though. I don't really want to reuse the axles from the rear i have now.. it will take awhile for me to get a hand with setting up the gears when i put the posi in. I am pretty sure that i can't use 9 bolt axles. I can't find 10 bolt 28 slpine axles!!!

You're right, you can't use 9-bolt axles.
The axles for a 10-bolt do in fact just slide out, once the clip has come off them. It's an ingenious example of a system with basically nothing holding it together, it just can't quite fall apart.
Chances are, you will not be able to find just axles by themselves. Think about it: in order to sell you the axles, the yard has to render a whole rear garbage. So what you will end up doing is buying a whole rear, taking the axles home, and just leaving behind the rest to be melted down. But you'll have to pay for the whole thing because the rest of it is now utterly useless to them. And even then, there aren't very many of them laying around, so you may have to hunt around a bit.
The brake lines might or might not hook up, depending on the age of the other rear end. If it's old enough it will have English fittings, but your car probably has metric. Check that over very carefully while it's out of the car.
Superior Axles makes new axles for these cars; unlike any of the "custom" axles like Moser or whoever, these are heat-treated after they're splines, so they're much stronger than a "custom" axle. They're about $250 a pair or so.

I found that the axles were VERY simply locked in place.
I don't really want to buy new, but i will keep them in mind.
Does anyone have any other thougts on the brake lines?
Thanks

Just slap a powertrax in that 10 bolt and you won't have to worry about axles, bearings, etc...

I have thought about that, but i don't know how good it will be for a daily driver.. Do you or anyone have any thoughts on it for use as a daily driver.. well, sunny days at least.

If you would post what year the other rear you have is, maybe somebody could make an educated guess as to whether it has staandard or metric brake line fttings... as it is, there's not enough info.

Well, that is a tricky question. The year of the rear i am rebuilding is unknown to me. I think its an 86.. i can't get in touch with the guy i bought it off. Is there a way to find out? I don't remember seeing any serial #'s on it. I know its not of the 28 spline variety, thats for sure.
