shift kit opinions
Soon I will be putting a higher stall converter in my car and I was wondering if it would be worth it to go ahead and put a shift kit in, while the transmission is out. Will this actually improve quarter mile times and will it effect drivability?
Also, what is involved in installing a shift kit. I know how to pull a transmission but that's about it. Do you think I would be able to put one in?
Thanks for any help.

IMHO it's a big PITA......I've done at least 10 and they still are a PITA to me. You get to do it w/ the tranny out so I'm positive it will make it like 400000000 times easier. If you ever do it under the car.....have a helper and beer runner handy>>>you'll need it

I don't think that they are hard at all. Well not for a 350, but I'm sure that they are all close to the same. Definately go ahead and do it. By shifting harder you can drop 0-60 times, 60 foot times, and quarter mile times. That is if you don't break the tires loose.

Hello. My name is F.C Why spend money on a shift kit? If you want full details on how to make your 350 shift firm or extra firm or just plain hard email me and I will let you know how to do it and cost you nothing but your time. F.C.
If you are going to make the 700R4 last, and you do not want to go into a rebuild with all the updates and improvements at this time, then I would install the Trans-Go Performance Shift kit along with the .500 main boost valve, .296 intermediate/reverse boost valve, and the Corvette servo. This will greatly extend the life and improve the performance of the transmission. This is assuming that your transmission is in good shape to begin with.
Hard shifts are not necessarily better for the transmission or for the rest of the driveline. If you are going to race the 700R4 and want the transmission to live, then you want progressively firmer (accumulated shifts) shifts. You do not want light throttle bang shifts, as this is very hard on the driveline (besides being very aggravating). You need to match the 1-2 accumulator to the rear end gear ratio & the type of torque converter you are going to use. This is not hard to do and I can help you here. Trans-Go is the only maker of valve body kits that addresses the 2-3 shift timing & capacity problem. When in the future you get the transmission rebuilt, then you can reuse the valve body kit & install the new forward and 3-4 return springs in the forward drum. This will help improve the life of the band and clutches. Give me a call if I can help. 800 7763288 Mon-Sat 10-6PST.
