Banging Noise

Banging Noise
My rear is making what I would call a banging noise. However, the car wont make the noise when it is in neutral or when the clutch is in. When I crawled under the car, I noticed that the pinion flange has some play in it. What could this be a bearing?

Nevermind, I found the problem. A tooth on the pinion was broken off.
