Swap Question!
Will a '92 Camaro 700R4 work in a '88 Trans Am? I know they are the same tranny but I was wondering if the years apart made a difference? The Tranny is coming from a 305 to a mild 355.
How long does a tranny swap take? How complicated also? Seems pretty straight forward.
Thanks

Re: Swap Question!
It'll be a direct bolt-in. If this is your first time, and you're doing it in a driveway with jackstands and a floor jack, expect it to take a full Saturday. In good weather. Longer if it's cold and miserable.
This is the time to do the poly trans mount upgrade, and if you want, any other upgrades, such as a corvette servo, or shift kit, or looser torque converter. If you have an aftermarket converter you like, be sure to get it flushed so any debris in it doesn't ruin the '92 trans.

Re: Swap Question!
Are things like the servo and shift kit direct bolt-in kind of parts? Could someone with little to no tranny experience put them in?

Re: Swap Question!
The corvette servo is usually easy, depending on where you get it. If you go to a local transmission rebuilder, you won't get any instructions with it. You need the instructions. This upgrade increases the holding ability of the band, which applies in second and overdrive. If your 350 is making serious power, this isn't a bad mod to do.
Shift kits are more controversial. You'll hafta read up on them and decide for yourself, but I feel it's worthwhile, and easier with the trans not in a car. Just keep in mind that most brands have instructions written for installation with the trans in the car. My own preference is www.tciauto.com
In any case, the poly trans mount is easy, and cheap insurance.
