BW T-5 might be dying, help me out...

Alright, first off, im not completley positive its the tranny causing problems, so i'll describe whats happening. In fifth gear especially, but also in 4th and 3rd, when giving it just a steady small amount of gas at about 1700+/- rpms, the whole car starts lurching around and making strange noises like the engine isn't turning fast enough for the current gear. when you down shift it goes away until you get down into lower rpms. also, i used to be able to shift into 5th at right around 45 mph, now when i try to shift at anything below 55-60, it sputters and lurches all over the place and it feels like the tranny is gonna rip right out of the car. i have no idea what could be causing this. The engine is running like garbage, it has a spiratic idle etc..., could this be causing the problem? the car feels fine at WOT, just everything below that sucks. could it be an unbalanced/bent driveshaft? or maybe the rearend going south? all suggestions are welcome. Im not looking foward to replacing the tranny cause its gonna cost some dough and its gonna be a PITA. One thing's for sure, if i do have to swap it, im going for a t-56 that way i won't have to worry about it again. Alright i just realized how long this is so i'll stop there. someone please help me out!!!

I think It sounds like its an eng. problem you pretty much said that is is not running right. well like they say first things first get the eng. running right then see if the trans is good.
