700r4 HELP!
Can anyone help me with my 700r4 scenario?
OK,
1. i pulled stock 305 cb motor and replaced with sbc 383.
2. Pulled trans (700r4) and had a complete rebuild.
3. My trans guy installed Dana's Probuild kit (500hp Kit), and a transgo shift kit.
4. I installed a yank 3200ss, and put all together.
Problem: I have some issues with the TV cable, as i'm not sure that its in the correct position. i know how to set the slider, and do the wot thing. I added the hardware TV brackets for the holley carb but its still not right. Shift points are at 4200 RPM, and the powerband sems to be around 5200-5500 rpm. Thats where i want my shifts. If i shift manual all is ok, but i'd like the trans to do the shifting. Also i can't get the trans to downshift from OD when i mash the pedal.
Questions: The motor no longer has all the ecu hooked up, just the oil pressure sensor, coolant sensor, and tach.
I left the ecu in the dash untouched. Is this doing anything to the trans. Should I remove it?
Should i run a hot wire to the trans and remove the ecu plug?
do any of these things have to do with shift points? what's my problem other than complete frustration. I'm reaching for anything at this point.

Re: 700r4 HELP!
Your 4200 upshift is the governor. It's on the drivers side of the trans, near the rear of the trans. The easiest way to get a 5200-5500 rpm upshift is get a good used governor from a V6 or L69 camaro. The 2.8 was rated 135 HP @ 5100 rpm, and I'm pretty sure it did the 1-2 above 5100.
Unfortunately, it requires dropping the rear of your trans, which requires undoing your distributor cap, and loosening your y-pipe from your headers.

Atilla, Why does it not downshift? When cruising in OD, it doesn't drop down when you mash it. Very frustrating. I have the Corvette servo in there, could that be stopping the downshift? Also, is the ecu in the dash sending any info to the trans? Should I disconnect?

Re: 700r4 HELP!
You can get a governor kit from B&M for about $35. It comes with instructions, weights and springs for the governor. You can make incremental adjustments with this kit, or grind away once you understand how the governor works. I'd recommend the kit because it will help enlighten you how it works. No downshift off of the T>V> cable at what M.P.H? The trans isn't smart enough to use a computer to upshift or downshift all this is done internally to the trans with the valve body and governor relationship. Example if the governor is spinning too fast for what it is programmed for the T.V. won't override the system. It's a fail safe built into the unit. For these type of shifts you might be better off manually shifting after installing a full manually controlled shift kit like the transgo 700-2&3. The description is Your choice:
FULL RACE--AUTOMATIC: Full automatic shifts in "D". Holds any gear to any speed with shift lever. Backshifts to any gear to any speed by moving shift lever. High throttle 3-4 shift is controlled by lever.
FULL RACE --Stick shift: Manual shift only. Trans will start off in what ever gear lever is in. Will shift to any gear, at any speed, by moving lever.
Sound good?
