WHINE FROM REAREND

I am starting to get a whining sound from my rearend on my Camaro. 3.08/5 speed manual 91 Z28. The sound increases when I quickly turn left and almost disappears when I turn right. Is my rearend going?????

Could be the right wheel/axle bearing going. At the very least, I'd check your gear lube level and/or change if it's been awhile.

It definately sounds like your right axle bearing going bad. Add a new axle to the budget.

There is no side load on the axle bearings when turning. so it can't be them. Gears make a whining sound. It almost looks like you habe side play in the carrier bearings which increases backlash between the ring gear and pinion when you turn left. I would guess that the backlash and side bearing preload needs to be reset, assuming the side bearings are okay.

My vote would be for the spider gears gettin ready to give. My buddys LG4/auto/3.08 open diff made the same sounds. It started as a little 'clunk' then it whined around turns. 1 month later they let go.
