Question

What is the difference between a locking diff and a limited slip diff? Do they do the same thing? Are they also called "posi-units"

Please help me understand since I might be getting a deal on one of these.

A locking diff will lock in a straight line, and free wheel in corners. which makes it way better than limited slip. Old malibus come with limited slip and no one wants that.
