Found a 9 bolt

I was searching through the junkyard today and found a 9 bolt. It was out of a GTA. I could not check to see if it was a posi or not. My question, do all the 9 bolts have posi? I know its a 90 or earlyer but I am not sure, how do I find what year it is? I dont know if this helps but it had the light weight spare tire and alum drive shaft.

Thanks

Re: Found a 9 bolt

Not all are posi. If it is a GTA, it should be posi though. If it was a 350 GTA then I would snag it ASAP. Try and get a 3 series POSI. 2 series wont really be worth it.

Re: Found a 9 bolt

2 series will not fit Rearends gears about 3.08.
3 series start a 3.27 and go up to 4.11 or something, so it is better for upgrading.

Does it have diskbrakes?

Bulydawg's right to ask. If the rear has alum calipers (PBR's) and 11.7" rotors (they won't match the front calipers/rotors), the rear is from an 89-92 car.

Yes, it had disk. What else would be worth getting out of this car, other than drive shaft? Ill have to go back and look at the calipers to see what they are.

Re: Found a 9 bolt

On the dash, driver's side, near the windshield is the VIN. The 10th digit is a letter representing the year. A=1980, B=1981 and so on.
Grab you the steering box, even if you don't need it you can sell it on here to guys like me, who are upgrading base-model F-cars.
If the car you want to put this 9-bolt in has rear drum brakes, then grab the master cylinder and proportioning/distribution block mounted right under it.
Also, the front anti-roll bar is a good upgrade to some guys, if it is the hollow kind, and if it has the so-called wonder bar, get that.
If the car is a 5-speed, that'll sell, also. Likewise the wheels and rear spoiler. If it is a 350 car, and the radiator is aluminum and in good condition...that too.

Just for general info: Only IROC's were equipped with the Wonderbar.

According to GM, the same master can be used on either drum or disc cars, but pulling both master and proportioning valve together might be easier.

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/susp...ghlight=master

As Attila mentioned, the sways would be a find if they were the hollow 36, solid 24 mm combo (check for the drain holes near the end links to verify that the front bar is hollow).

Re: Found a 9 bolt

I've found that cars in the salvage yard often have parts other than what they were built with. Finding a GTA with a Wonderbar swapped on isn't impossible.

No disagreement there, but actively searching for a Wonderbar on any car other than an IROC would seem counterproductive.

Re: Found a 9 bolt

True, but he's gonna be going over this car attentively. An extra 30 seconds at most=worthwhile.

Re: Found a 9 bolt

If your going to grab the rear and it has the pbr alum calipers make sure you take the e brake cables too.

And if the cables are not available or shot, you can pick them up at an auto parts store.
