Looking to build a replacement tranny, and then just swap it out. Will a 4X4 case have a different output shaft? Thanxs

Yes, 4wd's have shorter output shaft to match the transfer case adapter. The back yoke of the 2wd is simply removed and the tranny disassembled to swap the shafts. the 2wd rear yoke that accepts the driveshaft is not reinstalled and the 4 bolt holes are used to bolt to the t-case. Most tranny shops can/will just swap this stuff for you during a rebuild... They get to keep the speedo stuff, rear yoke and other shaft and just give you the new shaft and the tranny is apart to swap the shafts, nayway, so they can't charge ou for it. Everybody wins, really.
