clutch shutter/chatter
clutch shutter/chatter
Has anyone had a problem with there car shaking when they let out the clutch, it only happens occasionally. I know that the clutch was replaced in my car before I bought it. It has a new slave cylindar. I think Who ever just installed a cheep clutch. Does anyone have this problem?
It's probably whom ever installed the clutch did it improperly.
A few ideas are - didn't replace pilot bearing/bushing; didn't turn the flywheel; soaked the input shaft with grease which seeped onto the clutch plate and warped the flywheel/clutch/pressure plate.

I had the same thing happen to me, and it was done correctly. I think it has something to do with something else.

sounds like a possible "hot spot". I guess that's what they call it when you get spots that have inconsistent material properties in the flywheel. usually happens from slipping the clutch and overheating it. kinda "heat treats" the flywheel in some selected spots. this causes chattering. Mine did that when I bought it. (resurfacing helped for about 5 uses of the clutch, then it came right back, I hear that's common) Be careful about resurfacing the flywheel. it worked ok for me on my '83 (converted to hydraulic) but I've heard you get into trouble if you remove too much. It screws up the hydraulic setup by changing the height of the clutch. there's hope though. you can get spacers to go between the flywheel and the crankshaft from your local parts store. I forget the brand but it's the same folks that make replacement lock-up torque converter solenoids.
