10 bolt disc rear

well I went to the junk yard today and found an 84 z28 with a 10 bolt disc and 3.23 posi he said he would sell it to me (because I go there so much) for 125.00 is this a deal? I know from my own 10 bolt that they are very weak but, disc in its self makes me wan't it. plus I am redoing mine and would love to have an out of car rebuild with 3.73 gears.

Sounds like a smokin' deal. I wouldn't say they are that weak. There are people running 12's w/ a stock rear.

It's still just a 7.5/7.625 diff but just to get the housing with disk brakes is worth it. You can always get a 28 spline carrier from an 88 to present f-body or even an s-10 from the same years and install aftermarket 28 spline axles from www.tomsdifferencials.com

Don't forget if you're swapping from drum to disk you should also change the master cylinder and pressure differencial switch (proportioning valve). Grab those also but you'll have problems with the brake lines. The 84 will have standard lines and fittings and your 88 will have metric.

Ummm... make sure it has 10 bolts around the rear! I won't tell you how many bolts my disk brake/posi rear from a 84 that I bought from a junkyard actually has... (hint: look at my sig.)

I was looking for a 9 bolt disc rear and was having no luck when I decided thet maybe this old 84 might have aluminum drums so I looked and saw disc and thought this is odd and looked under the car and counted 10 bolts. I thought that I made a mistake and crawled under it and had to count it 3 more times then I checked the glove box to see that it had 3.23 (GU5) and posi (G80) the rotors were very rusty but, no pitting.
