Manual clutch housing

Hey everyone, I posted a while ago talking about updating my transmission from a 3 speed auto, I had been thinking about a 700r4 didn't have much luck finding an affordable one in good shape in my area, but I did find a T5 for a good price. I know the T5 can't handle much power, but my LG4 is certainly not a powerhouse. The one problem with this T5 is the guy says it has a "manual clutch housing" rather than hydraulic. It's supposed to be out of a mid-80s camaro, but it seems like all the swap threads I've found on here deal with hydraulic clutches on the T5. Would I be able to make this work with my 82 Z28? If it's just something in the bellhousing I can always get a different one.
Thanks for the help

Yep, It's just a different bellhousing and maybe the clutch fork. If you find one with the hydraulic cylinder mount, the tranny should bolt right up to it. You'll need the pedals and master/slave cylinder from a donor car too.

If the trans is from a car with a manual clutch, it's probably early 80's and a non-world class trans. That's ok though. The T5 is really a good piece. Not up to real hard service but will do fine behind a mild 305-350 if you don't speed shift and dump the clutch a lot. Mine lasted a couple of years behind a stout 350 and a 200 shot of nitrous. But, then one day it just gave up shifting to third....

I have a bell and a hurst shifter if you're interested. PM me.

Re: Manual clutch housing

All right, so is the hydraulic clutch just preferable or is it the only setup that will work for me? I thought I heard somewhere that the location of the hydraulic cylinders is sometimes a problem with headers installed, and I have a pair of Hooker 2460 shorties I'm probably going to put in next summer. Would that cause any issues? Antman - I'll probably wait until I pick up the transmission and see what shape everything is in before I let you know if I want your housing/shifter. Thanks!
