Torque Arm Removal Question

IS the torque arm under pressure when the car is not running? I am starting my trans removal and I need to remove the torque arm bolts but I am not sure if it is under any pressure. Also, are there special tolls needed to install a corvette servo or can basic tools be used. As you can see I am learning as I go with this removal. :-)

The torque arm is under a certain amount of pressure if the rear-end is hanging when you jack the car up. I would put the jackstands under the axle tubes. This will eliminate most of the pressure. Then put a piece of wood between the floorpan and the torque arm just to be safe and remove the front mount first. You should then be able to move the torque arm by hand and position it so that there is no pressure. Then remove the two rear bolts. Good luck.

your coil springs are what is keeping pressure on the torque arm.if you remove the bolts that are holding the torqe arm to the tranny with out releiving that pressure the torque arm WILL pivit upwards very violently and break any thing in it's way(speedo gear).so tp releive that pressure remove the coil springs.

I do mine like Frank says. Jack the car up, support it by the frame, let the rear end all the way down, jack it back up an inch or 2, put a second pair of jack stands under the axle tubes up high enough to support the rear before it reaches the end of the shocks' travel. Then there is very little force on the TA, and you can move it around fairly easily.
