TV cable questions

With the trans installed in the car I can't quite get to the tv cable mount at the trans. It looks like I need to lower the trans to get to the cable. I can place the car on stands and a jack under the pan and remove the trans cross memeber. Will this give the clearnace needed?

Re: TV cable questions

I had the same problem with my 84. I did what you suggested. It's still a bit tight though. I took the trans pan off and it made the difference!

Lower the trans like you said in your post, drop the pan and it will be a piece of cake.

Re: TV cable questions

Did you remove the driveshaft at the differential, the distributor cap, and air cleaner?
Thanks for the tip on removing the pan.
Did the new cable help with any issues?

Re: TV cable questions

I popped the distributor cap off and then put the jack back on the bracket that attaches to the tranny back by the crossmember. Then I removed the crossmember and lowered the transmission until I started to hear wire looms start to crinkles between the heads and the firewall. It was still tight as hell but we managed to get the boot of the tv cable in place after about 2 and a half hours of dicking with it. I didn't have a new gasket or a bucket to catch the fluid so we didn't pull the pan.

Btw, the new tv cable didn't help a damn thing for me. My tranny won't shift out of first until about 4500 rpm and it makes the whole car lurch. The 2-3 shift is about 500 rpm higher than normal but it doesn't try to snap my neck like 1-2. I'm also not getting OD and torque converter lock up until I run it up to about 50 mph and let off the accelerator.

I'm going to replace the governor and flush the tranny oil. If that doesn't help, it's time for an overhaul.
