1992 RS 305 TBI 5 Speed Gears
Alright guys sorry for the newb question but I have spent my whole day reading on this site and dont get me wrong it is a awesome way to spend a day at work but I have not found a specific answer to my question. I have a 1992 Camaro RS 305 TBI with the 5 speed and I believe 2:73 gears please tell me if I am wrong...I want to upgrade my gears, I want something that is better from red light to red light acceleration wise, but I do not want to lose to much top end as this is my DD and I do drive on the expressway a lot. What exact gear ratio would be recomended for this mod? 3:23, 3:42, 3:73? I am not looking to take this car to the track or anything like that just good street driving that will give my 305 a little more pep while I am building my 350. Any help will be appreciated

if its got the 5 speed i think its got 3.23 gears stock. I have the 700r4 which has the 2.73.
3.73 you would probably do you well.
3.42 wont be much more then what you have.

I guess I should have looked at the tech data page, It looks like my car has 3:08 gears. Should I make the jump up to 3:73 or would 3:42 be good enough?

I have not done the swap before, but ive rode in another 3rd gen that had the 3.73's and wow. makes my 2.73 seem so wrong.
3.42's are resonable, you still maintain a top end and get there quicker, as with the 3.7*+ you start loosing a lot of top end.
I have the need to go way fast every once in a while, but love hauling stop light to stop light. If your wanting 150ish highway then get the lower gear, if you want that on ramp/stop light killer, go with the 3.73's.
Its all preference.
