Bellhousing & Flywheel?
Bellhousing & Flywheel?
I am swapping out my tired '89 305 (one piece rear main seal) for a newly rebuilt '76 350 (two piece rear main seal) and was wondering if I could still use my stock bellhousing and flywheel from '89?

The bellhousing will work on all Chevy smallblocks (up to, but not including LS1/LS6), 4.3 V6's, and bigblocks. However, the flywheel will not work since your '89 uses a 1-piece rear main and you have a 2-piece. Just get an old style 350 flywheel.

Frank is right about the bell housing. However, most 350 flywheels won't work for your swap, because they're 14", and a 14" won't go in the only bellhousing that fit these cars, which only accommodates the 12¾" one. The flywheel to get is the one for a 83-84 HO 5-speed car. The one from the LG4 in those years will also work, but the HO one is the lighter one, and therefore better in this application.
