any tips on carrier removal..9 bolt

Ok i got the bearing caps off and the axles out but the carrier is really wedged in there. Any tips on how to get it out? I was using a breaker bar as a pry bar and trying to pop it out that way but no dice.

Put the car in Neutral and make sure there isn't a stress. Then put it back in park and use the breaker bar as a wedge again. That is what I did.

Hmmm. I had to wedge something in and use a hammer to tap it out. Try and do some hard quick taps, but make sure you don't hit the gears, just the carrier.

What are you doing to it? If you are rebuilding it, if you have any questions, feel free to ask me. I rebuilt mine and I am about to rebuild another one. I am quite familiar with these.

Re: any tips on carrier removal..9 bolt

I might actually. I have step by step instructions on how to shim it but it seems i need to bring the cones to a machine shop and have them turned down on a lath. They are a bit worn at the end but the case itself has not been cut..yet. I caught it just in time i think. By the way if you couldnt tell from what i just wrote...i got it out and apart. Thanks for the tip
