ive contemplated this aswell, i have a tranny since i got a good deal on it, turns out though you will need a stand alone computer as it is basically an electronically controlled turbo 400 from my understanding, the controller is going to cost about a grand i think i found out. not sure how it would bolt up to your 383, but im running an lt1 in my car, and it would bolt up too that, not sure of any of the other stuff thought, crossmember, torque arm...

I dont know anybody here who has done it, and like i said in the other post, tpi383 had pics of a car with it installed.
maybe check ls1 tech? should be similar clearance in the 4th gen tunnel
