transmission leak help please

I know this is not a f-body question but I need help. I also have a 85 gmc sierra w/ 305 & turbo 350 tranny. I have a leak comming from the middle of the slip yolk where my driveshaft connects. I replaced the filter about 4 months ago when it did this the first time and it fixed it til now. I replaced the rear seal today because I thought it had a leak there now, but it is leaking even worse now from the middle of the yolk. Anyone know what is going on. What should I do. Change the filter again?

remove the driveshaft. take the front u joint out and weld the center of the yolk up solid. I've done this lots of times and all will be o.k.. There is no vibrations after either. buy a new u joint and re-assemble and enjoy no leaks.

Re: transmission leak help please

ok sounds well and all but isn't there a purpose for the hole. I am no transmission guy that's for sure, but the hole is there for pressure to be released when it builds up because one reason or another? One of my buddies was trying to explain to me the first time this happened that my filter was probably clogged causing pressure to build and comming ouot the back. I changed the filter and it stopped leaking for about 3 months.

I actually like the idea of welding it up but I just want to make sure it will not cause further problems before I do this.

Re: transmission leak help please

there is a inner seal inside the extension housing. when the drive line is installed it is supposed to help keep trans oil off of the splines of the output shaft. when I rebuild these transmissions I throw the seal in the garbage. You could do the same and weld the yolk or just weld it and do nothing else. It isn't a big deal if you weld it and don't remove the seal because it already leaks internally. make sense?
