It'll depend on how the engine is built. Most likely though, the TPI will fall on its face at high RPM before it becomes a problem.

It will stop making power by 5k.

As far as the engine itself, it all depends on the parts used. The camshaft and head flow dictate the rpm range/powerband, but the bottom-end must be built with parts to handle that range.

Re: does anybody know about reving limits

ok that helps its a 350 crate engine so it should withstand shifting at 4500 /5000 do you know anything about the tv cable controls shift points connected to the throttle body i had it pushed all the way in and my car would go way quick to 4500 but wanted to keep going so i had to let off for it to shift but i want it that high 4500 how can i control that
----------
can you give me more detail what does falling on its face mean without further problems

Falling on its face means you're not going to get enough air through the TPI to make any more power past a certain point.

You don't set shift points with the TV cable, you set them with the governor.

Setting shift points with the tv cable is a quick way to kill a trans. The tv cable should be fully extended at WOT. If the shift point needs to be changed, you'll need to "re-calibrate" the governor. This is done using different weights and/or springs from a governor kit like B&M's.

Basically you're limited by your bottom end and valve train. Yeah, how it is cammed, type of intake etc dictate powerband but "blowing your engine" is a different matter.

The stock hydraulic roller valvetrain is good to about 6K with appropriate springs. And the stock bottom end should be kept below that same figure. You can rev one to about 6500 tops before the valves float. Obviously, the combo you have dictates shift points and a TPI setup generally gets shifted by 5K. Yes, on an automatic trans car you should change the springs/weights in you tranny's governor to affect the shift point.

As far as the stock tach goes. Mine reads about 500 rpm HIGHER than actuall. I've heard this is typical for our cars. By the tach my car would shift out at about 5300 which was about 4700 in reality. Just about right if you have the stock 700r4.
