700r4 tech help please

I just got a 700r4 out of a '89 S-10 4.3L laying around. I want to use it behind a carbed V-8, maybe 250HP. I know it will physically bolt up, but will it last through one summer? Is there anything inexpensive I could do to it myself to help it survive? I've put in shift kits with good directions, but that's about it on trannys. I plan on using one of the aftermarket lockup controllers for the TCC (probably TCI), but I don't wanna dump too much money into this. Thanx for any help!!!

It should be fine for a season. I ran for a year with an '85 700R4 behind my 383, the WOT shifts were softened a bit by the time the new transmission was put in, but it still worked. That transmission is going into a '65 Impala now.

You will need to change the tailshaft so the torque arm will bolt up. All the tailshafts are interchangable so a v6 or v8 will work a-ok.

Yes, good point. My new transmission was out of a 93 Caprice and I had to swap the tailhousings between the two so I could bolt the stock torque arm up to it.

Cool, thanks guys. I found another post about a Vette servo & .500 TV boost valve. Would this help the shifts be a little firmer and maybe help to ensure that it lasts all summer? Is it something I could do myself? If so, does it come in a kit, and where's a good place to get it? Or would I be better off to just leave it alone? Thanks again for the help!

If the 3-4 clutches are in decent shape, I would at the minimum install the .500 main boost valve ($10.00), and the Corvette servo ($17.00). If you manually shift the transmission, put in the .296 intermediate/reverse boost valve ($15.00). If I can help, let me know, call me at 800 7763288 Mon-Sat 10-6 PST.
Glad Too Help!!!
