Muncie m21 into a 91 700r4 car...need quick answer before it sells!!!
Hey one of my good freinds dads just pulled the hopped up m21 he had in his 67 camaro with over 550 horses....hes selling it for $400, but i have to let him know really quick whether or not i want it...How easily will this go into my 91 which has a 700r4 in it now? How much fabrication will i have to do? Can i just get pedals, clutch, all that good stuff off of a t-5 car and use those? Would this swap be worth it? Its either that or i spend money on a torque converter now, and then switch in a new 700r4 which even from the tranny doctor will cost me $1,000. What will it take to get my speedo to work? Any other problems? I am currently putting in a new 355...carb, no computer...so that isnt an issue. Thanks for any help!!!

Go to the link up top and see why you shouldn't do it. I've done it, and it ain't pretty.
Spend your money on a Yank, Vigilante, or Pro-Torque convertor, and your car will feel just like a stick.

Well the only thing is this...my tranny has like 200,000 miles on it and im throwing a 450 horsepower 355 in it right now...so i know its not gonna last at all...since im gonna have to replace the tranny anyhow would it still not be worth it??

You will have to fabricate a crossmember to hold the torque arm, cut the floor longer to fit the shifter, and get your driveshaft lengthened. The shifter linkage was a pain in the *** , and the shifter handles were too.
It's up to you, like I told the other guy, but I've been there and done that, and I wouldn't do it again. I would have been better off putting in a T-5 or Tremec, and I started with a manual T-5 tranny in the first place.
There is a lot of fabrication involved, and it will cost you some ca$h if you can't do it yourself.
Just my $.02, but you'd be better off with getting your 700R4 built and getting one of the top converters.

you could do it, but you could do about anything if you have the time and money for it. spend your money on a t5 or tremac if you want a manual or get the 700r4 rebuilt if there is a problem with it and up grade at the same time.

Since you are in CA, take your tranny to Pro-Built, I've got one, and I beat the crap out of it. I don't know if the tranny doctor is any good, but always get references from people who are running the tranny you are thinking about buying.
I was just over a friend's house yesterday helping him rebuild his 700R4 that was suposedly 'built' by some shop in CA only a year ago. It lost 2nd and 4th gears after we put a shift kit in it. After taking it apart, the pump is shot, and many other parts are damaged.
Everybody can't build 700R4's, go to Pro-Built and get it done right the first time.

Well guys thanks for the replys....although i think it would be cool to have something in it not many people have, ive had enough fabrication with this engine for a while...so i guess ill just stick with the 700r4...either get it rebuilt or buy a new one. I just hope it last at least a little while...That or i might just pull it out now since the engine is out.
