***ATTENTION TKO AND T56 USERS!!!***

I've been searching this board for articles concerning the TKO and the T56 and I havent found the answers to my questions, so hear we go!

1- Which is stronger?
2- I read a post stating that the TKO's 1-2 gear spread will cause a severe rpm drop (post stated 6500 to 3900). Is this true?
3- Will the aftermarket T56 stand up to hard launches and power-shifting?
4- To those who have both, which one shifts better?

Thanks for all the help in advance.

I had the Tremec 3550 (I think that was the number) and I do not recall a large drop in RPMs like you mentioned. I was told the only difference between the 3550 and the TKO was the output shaft.

I did not care a lot for the Tremec transmission. It has a very notchy shift in my opinion. It was durable but if I were to do it over I would think seriously about a T56 swap. I think a T56 with 4.10 gear would make a nice combination.

I think both will stand a lot of abuse if you are not putting over 450hp to the ground.

I thought that the 3550 and the TKO were the same tranny except that the TKO was beefed up a little bit. The TKO is supposed to handle 525 ft/lbs of torque and well over 600 horsepower. Don't know too much about the T56

there are a couple different geard ratio options in the t-56. one from 93 that handles 400 lbs torque and then the 94 and new with a higher gear that handles 450lbs. I think it comes in to what tires you will be running a bit hear. I am pretty sure a t-56 would handle 500 +lbs if you are running 275 normal street tire. you would just spin the tires. I have one for my chevelle and I am going to put a 502 in it and I don't think it will be a problem.
