1983 5-speed upgrade?????
I have an all original 83 T/A with the stock 5-speed setup. It has the manual clutch instead of the hydraulic one.
Are there any bolt in transmissions that will hold up to 450lbs of torque and still utilize my manually operated clutch and not have to modify anything. I would like to keep all my floor pans, console, torque arm, crossmember and all that intact if possible.
The trans that is in there now will not hold up that kind of torque I know.
After I get my 69 Chevelle finished I am wanting to build one of my 400 small blocks and turn it into a 305 look-a-like for my 83 Trans Am. I will utilize the stock cc Q-jet carb, stock aluminum intake, HO 305 Exhaust Manifolds, flat top pistons, G.M. 350 350HP .460 .480 lift flat hydraulic cam shaft, stock cast crank, Sportsman 2 cylinder heads. I had a similar setup in a Chevelle I had. On the engine dyno it made 375 hp @5,000 and 480 ftlbs torque @3,400. We had the cam advanced 4 degrees. It pulled harder down low like that but was maxed out at 5,000 rpms. 1.68 60 ft times with drag radials. Went 12.64 in the 1/4 @ 106 mph.
