Have a noisy Spohn Torque arm?

I've read a few posts by people who have swapped in a T56 and upgraded to a Spohn torque arm complain of increased driveline noise. I don't know wheather these are transmission or cross member mounted arms.

I'm about to embark on a swap myself and am considering their retrofit T56 that would alow me to keep my pedals and clutch. However, a stock length torque arm would no longer fit. If their cross member mounted arm causes too much of an increase in noise I would consider buying a used tranny to have it rebuilt and swap out my pedals and hydraulics instead.

Any comments/personal experience anyone might have is appreciated.
Thanks,
Jon

Re: Have a noisy Spohn Torque arm?

I have a spohn torque arm in my 88 with a T5 and when I initially installed it there was increased noise. For whatever reason the noise went away after i removed and reinstalled everything when i replaced my clutch. I thought maybe something was a little bit out of alignment. I wouldn't use spohn parts for a few reasons. First being bad ground clearance, price and also poor customer service. I bought a PA racing tubular K-member and the quality on that one was very good and the price and customer service were much better as well.

WIll36 - The PA racing k-member that you have does the torque arm mount to the tranny or the crossmember?

I currently have the spohn crossmember with the torque arm mount. I bought it because I liked the idea of having the torque arm mounted to the crossmember. Anyway, because the way it was designed it makes a clunk noise upon accelleration or deceleration. It doesn't hurt anything but makes your car sould like a POS that is falling appart. Also it cuts down on ground clearance which can be a problem going over speed bumps or getting into or out of steep driveways.

Well the torque arm doesn't mount to the K-member thats what holds the engine and what the front suspension bolts to. I also have a PA tubular k-member and trans crossmember. The PA and spohn one are almost the same(I have one of each on 2 different vehicles) The spohn one is made from regular flat stock welded together and hangs rather low. The PA piece is made from mainly tubular pieces of steel welded together. They are both mounted to the crossmember by same basic method in identical locations. I have ground clearance problems with the spohn unit on my stock height IROC. I haven't finished the car with the PA unit in it but, I don't think it will hang down as low. I like the PA stuff better, because it's cheaper and frankly all the people I talked at spohn over the last 2 years have been total @$$holes, so I refuse to do anymore business with them.
