tranny is free wheeling how long will it last before it totally goes out

the other day the tranny started free wheeling i would let off the gas while in 2nd gear and it the rmp's would drop to 1000 rpms give it some gas and it would kick back in depending on the speed so lets say i was doing 40 mph and it would kick in around 3500 rpms so i know this is no good at allso should i just rebuild it or get a hole new tranny i think summit had a kit for around $360 i think it was a kit made by hughs is this a good kit? or should i look at probuilt to see what he could do for me? anyhelp would be great thanks. also if i was to take the tranny out my self what does a tranny shop usually charge to rebuild a tranny if i have my own kit to have installed? and the tranny is a 700r4

this run is before the new exhaust system new sticky tires coolant by pass smog removal new runners new thermostat and new three core radiator since i would get to the line and be well over 220* aluminum drive shaft and vette servo

The overrun clutch and/or the input sprag are the problem. The transmission will need to be taken out to fix this. The average shop charge will be $225.00-$300.00 for the removel & replacement of the transmission. My price for the top of the line rebuild kit (includes 4 quarts of my Pro-Fluid)is $425.00 and includes a new stator & all the latest updates & improvements on the 700R4's. If you need a transmission, I can help out there too. Top of the line 700R4's go for $1350.00, (outright) and they come with a one year warranty. The torque converters I would recommend are the Continental 10" non-lockup, or the Precision Industries Vigilante 9.5" lockup, etc. If you have any questions call me at 800 7763288 Mon-Sat 10-6 PST and I will be glad too help!
