1993 m28 and m29 t56 vs 94+

hey guys. i have a handle on a 1993 m29 close ratio t56. i am going to trade something of value that i have had laying around in my garage for it, so its practically free to me.

the thing is ive read alot of places the 1993 t56 isnt as strong as the 94+ lt1 styled t56. this unit is confirmed as a m29 close ratio 93 t56. most places ive found information rate the m28 at 380 ft lbs, the m29 at 400, and the 94+ at 450. normally seeing that the unit is considered weaker would be enough for me to pass it up, but the gear ratio spread in this tranny really appeals to me.

what is the difference between a 93 m29 t56 and a 94+ t56, besides the gear ratio spread, that makes it weaker? or is it the steeper ratios that make it more prone to breakage? thank you!!

Not sure what makes them weaker, but a friend of mine ran one behind a 383 LT1 in a caprice. Never had any problems with it and that's a much heavier car. Don't know the exact power level, but I would say it had to be 450-500 at the crank.
