2.77 9 bolt rearend

can i put 3;27 posi in that rearend or do i have to change my housing

The nine bolts are rare. They are not interchangable like the 1982-1987 rearend components with 1988 - 1992's. The 9 bolts are in a class of there own.

You don't have to change out your housing but you do need the 3 series carrier rather than the 2 series carrier you currently have. I've heard that a spacer can be fabricated to allow the use of 3 series gears with your carrier but I have no personal knowledge. Maybe someone who does will reply.

You will need a series 3 carrier. You can use your existing housing.

I am buying a 10 bolt from a friend of mine for $200. It will probably cost you less to go to a junk yard or look at e-bay for a used 10 bolt with 3.42s or 3.73s and put that in your car. You could then sell your 9-bolt and maybe even make a profit on the swap. Those 9 bolts are strong and rare and some people will pay some serious cash for them.

I got a 3.27 gear, posi, 9 bolt complete with disk brakes (calipers and rotors) for sale sitting here in Calgary. Are you willing to pick it up or pay the shipping to Ontario? I want $500 for it.
