imple Question? How can I get a good tranny from a Pick UR Part Yard?

That's the Simple Question.
How can I tell I can get a good tranny from a Pick Your Part Yard?
I need one for a 2.8.
Don't mind rebuilding one, but, that's too much BS right now.
Need to just get a good tranny.
I hear the fluid smell test is no good with a 700 R4 choice.
I need one, again, for a 2.8 Fbody.
I was told, cars T-Boned are great choices, so are cars rear ended.
HELP!
Thanks!

i'm bad about getting things from yards..so i know a little...rear ended..tboned..all are good...a wrecked car..is a good thing...because you know why its there...if it isn't wrecked...wouldn't touch it....god only knows why its there...i've seen beautiful F bodies in the yard...no visable reason for being there...checking the tranny..fluid check can be a good thing...the smell test..is of course..not much help...but if you check the fluid..and its not the proper color...i would be weary of it honestly...either it wasn't taken care of..or its justsimply worn out...

I've got to swap heads on my S-10 Blazer, same engine set up as you have, the carb. My head gaskets went.
I'd rather remove the engine, swap in a better cam (I can get a 2.8 MPFI cam & lifters for $25, new chain I hope as cheap), bolt up other tranny, new truck again for cheap!
DYING TO DO THIS.
I can move all my stuff to a cheaper strage space, saves lots of money.
Need a good working tranny!!
